TODAY’S QUESTION:
What do you hope to find at this year’s convention that will help with profitability?

Steven and Vince Hanson

Our dealership is over 22 years old, and it’s ready for some sprucing up, which we think we add to our profitability. We are specifically looking for an energy-efficient lot lighting system – the “green thing” is the right thing to do. We are also looking for some service training programs that will go to customer retention on the back end. Business is holding up, but used is better than new and parts and service are doing OK.
Steven and Vince Hanson, Hanson Motors Kia/Subaru/VW, Olympia, Wash.

Ed Tanferani

We are looking at cost-cutting ideas as well as new equipment for a new building. We are a rural dealership that is focused on SUVs and trucks, so business is soft right now, but we’re looking forward because everything changes eventually. We remain very enthused about the future, and we wouldn’t miss NADA’s convention—in fact we have five of our managers with us to search the floor and workshops to enhance our current and future business.
Ed Tanferani, Fortuna Motors Ford/Chevrolet, Fortuna, Calif.

Pete Pannier

We are looking at computer systems and software that will enable efficiency and allow us to work on business development. We need a good database management system that can help us prospect among our own customer base. The savings in talking to customers who already know us versus capturing new customers is enormous. The good thing is that at least where we are in Cincinnati business is starting to pick up and it’s a good time to reinvest in our business.
Pete Pannier, Northgate Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, Cincinnati, Ohio

Paul Willrodt

It’s simple. We’re here to learn starting with the workshop—“Lifeline to Profits.” We need tools to manage better and we’re looking for new and fresh ideas.
Paul Willrodt, Willrodt Motor Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge, Chamberlain, S.Dak.
